Who are we?

Bradford City Centre Residents Association (BCCRA). Is a not-for-profit organisation run on community development principles. We are not aware of any other Residents Association in the country that represents an entire city centre.

Who BRRCA represents

We adopted the Bradford Urban Regeneration boundary in June 2008. There are presently in excess of 1,000 local residents, with a predicted ten-fold increase by 2015 [Community Pride, Nov. 2006].

City living in Bradford is dominated by the 20 to 39 age group, particularly single people and co-habiting couples [KnightFrank, 2007]. Many BD1 residents are educated professionals, although the student population is not insignificant [www.upmystreet.com].

How long have we been established?

The initial meetings were held in February 2008; since then we have elected officers, agreed a name, logo and constitution and sought funding. BCCRA intends to host an official launch event later in the year.

BCCRA’s primary purpose

Initially to increase awareness of our existence amongst the local population, thereby becoming the ‘voice’ of city centre residents. BCCRA aims to create a sense of community in the city living environment, and hopes to benefit from our diverse cultural heritage.

Possible projects/ Issues under discussion

  • Lobbying for a neighbourhood forum and/ or ward councillor surgeries

  • Ongoing maintenance and improvements to the city’s public realm

  • Provision of additional city centre health care facilities

  • Addressing the fear of crime and combating anti-social behaviour

  • Organisation and planning of city centre events

  • Increasing the provision of recycling facilities in the locale

  • Becoming a consultee on city centre planning applications

  • Improving parking facilities for local residents.
